The Capital Hotel Group opens new R270m hotel in Gqeberha
The Capital Boardwalk, Gqeberha’s new aparthotel, conferencing venue and entertainment complex, will open its doors to guests on May 1.
The R270-million development includes an in-house restaurant, and 145 hotel rooms and apartments, with access to The Boardwalk casino, the beachfront and shopping centre.
Guests can also connect in the co-working hub with its Zoom rooms, or host events in the conference centre.
Developed by The Capital Hotel Group, this marks the company’s first presence in Gqeberha, with the Eastern Cape development part of its national expansion strategy.
“With The Capital Boardwalk now open, we are delivering on our promise to create a space that supports business, empowers local talent, and adds new energy to one of South Africa's most storied coastal cities,” says The Capital Hotels, Apartments & Resorts CEO Marc Wachsberger.
The hotel has created around 200 new jobs.
“Gqeberha has all the ingredients of a rising coastal hub,” adds Wachsberger. “We see enormous potential in the region not just as a tourism destination, but as a community ready to thrive.”
The Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber has welcomed the opening of The Capital Boardwalk.
Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber CEO Denise van Huyssteen views the project as “a clear vote of confidence in Nelson Mandela Bay’s potential as a premier investment and leisure destination”.
She says the development enhances the city’s accommodation offering, while also strengthening its ability to attract both business and leisure travellers.
